Seeds, Stories & Solidarity (Fall 2025) - Magazine - Page 9
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Seeds, Stories & Solidarity. Our
aim is to document and transmit stories of the people and places in
our global food movement to help us feel more connected in the
face of the forces hell-bent on fracturing and isolating us. We are
honored that members of the global peasant confederation La Vía
Campesina took the time to share their stories with Real Food Media
for this issue.
In a time of encroaching darkness, we are inspired by the humble
seed, which, when pressed into the dark soil, seeks nutrients, grows
roots, and reaches obstinately towards the light. Not everyone can
look with hope upon a seemingly inert seed. Not everyone sees
its dormant potential. The peasant farmer—who nourishes much of
humanity against unimaginable odds—is an expert in hope.
We also extend our deep appreciation to Katie Brimm for collecting
interviews and supporting story development and writing; Erika
Piñeros for taking many of the photographs featured in this issue,
Jaime Roque for editing the audio stories featured in the digital
version, and Rini Singhi of dhoop Studios for creative direction,
layout, and design.
Lastly, we are pleased to release this issue on the historic occasion of
the Third Global Nyéléni Forum, convened by 13 global movements
for food sovereignty, which brought together roughly 750 delegates
from 101 countries in Kandy, Sri Lanka, in September of 2025.
The stories we keep and share, like the seeds in our pockets, are the
currency of our movement—not transactional, but relational. In giving
and receiving them, we sift out disinformation, build trust, and grow
our collective power. We hope you enjoy this issue and welcome
your thoughts and ideas.
Solidarity,
