Peasant Youth

We see many youths being dragged into mining because
mining is a priority in my country. For example, there is the
discovery of new minerals almost every year right now; there
is lithium. So, many people are shunning farming because
there’s money there. My dream is that those youth come
back to the rural side because that’s where the means of
surviving are—unlike in the towns where the unemployment
rates are alarming.
And my biggest dream is to have farmers that are practicing
agroecology. From there, we mobilize the communities
and then even the whole country. If [agroecology] could
be adopted, we could have a cooler planet. We could have
even peace. Because I’ve seen that in many places where
there’s no peace, there’s a shortage of the means of living,
like food. So that’s my biggest dream.
